NHCA Job description

Newsletter Editor

Volunteer Job Overview

The Newsletter Editor will gather, edit, and submit North Haven Community content to Great News, a design / print service. Content may include community events, changes in our community, and opportunities to participate in both. No logos or promotion of any specific business is allowed as this should be done through advertising which is managed by Great News.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Review & Prioritize Content - Review content submitted by community members, board members, and city organizations and possibly edit. City content (for example, Councillor for Ward 4; or the Federation of Calgary Communities; or Friends of Nose Hill Society [FONHS]) is also sent directly to Great News and they often lay it out before the Newsletter Editor’s content, so there is no need for editing. Take photographs or source images to support content. Prioritize content by assigning a number prefix to file names in order of importance. For example, 00 Cover Image, 01 President’s Report, 02 Entertainment News, etc.
Time required for this task: 5 hrs/month

  • Submit Content to Great News - Submit content no later than the 10th of each month before the issue month. For example, content must be submitted by December 10 to be included in the January issue.
Time required for this task: 10 mins/month

  • Review Proof Draft - Proof read the draft sent out by Great News around the 3rd week of the month prior to the issue month for any errors or omissions.
Time required for this task: 2 hrs/month

  • Attend Monthly Meeting and Report - (optional for this position) Attend the meeting on the second Thursday of each month held at the NHCA Hall. Report any important information about the newsletter.
Time required for this task: 2-3 hrs/month

  • Submit Monthly Report - (if needed) Send any important information about the newsletter to the NHCA secretary for the meeting on the second Thursday of each month held at the NHCA Hall.
